Upgrade Foot Bindings

What: Replacement foot bindings.
Why: Adds safety, performance and style to your stilts.

Mod Time: 20 Minutes

Materials and Tools:

(1) Set of Snowboard Bindings (4 straps) - Removed from Snowboard Footplate

- Philips Screwdriver
- Pliers
- Drill with 11 mm* (7/16 inch) bit or Stepbit (Unibit)
*Your stilts may require a different size bit - Measure the hole size of the old bindings*

How To:

1. Remove old straps from the stilt with the screwdriver; you may need to hold the backing nut with pliers on some of the bolts.
Keep track of all the hardware, as you will need to reuse it.

2. Most new bindings will need the holes drilled out in order to fit the old hardware. The straps we are using have a different hole shape, so they need drilled out.

Brace the strap on a hard surface and drill the hole larger. Recheck with the stilt hardware.
*Note: If using a unibit or stepbit, be very careful not to drill the hole too large.

3. Attach the new bindings to the stilt footplate. Secure the hardware using the screwdriver and pliers.
*Note: New bindings may be thicker than the old ones, preventing the hardware from tightening properly. You may need to add an extra washer to help secure them in place.

Finished Mod:
New Snowboard Bindings should last much longer and secure better than the original straps. They are also an excellent way to customize your stilts.

History:

Replacing the factory straps with Snowboard Bindings has become a common practice among Powerbockers who demand better performance. Ratchet type snowboard bindings are very similar to the bindings that come on most Jumping Stilts. In fact, you can usually replace just the Ratchet and it will work with your old straps. However, it is advisable to replace the entire setup.
