Quick-Release Knee Bindings

What: A quick and secure way to bind your legs to the stilts.
Why: They compliment and improve the existing safety straps.

Mod Time: 10 Minutes

Materials:

(4) Large Dog Collars - Approx. 18-28 inch adjustable, 1 inch width, with Quick-Release Buckles
*Note: Buckles need to be identical

(2) 20-25 inch lengths of Utility Strap (nylon or polypro webbing) with Non-Slip Buckles
Also known as Tension-locks, or Heavy Duty Cinch Straps

(2) Tri-glides

How To:

1. Unpackage collars and adjust to around 20 Inches. Place tri-glides on the utility straps.
2. Loosely wrap utility strap on the knee bar.
Before attaching the collars, you need to decide which method to use by doing this simple test.

If you can get the outer strap to slide, use method 1 below; this will keep the collars from slipping.

If the outer strap won't slide, you can use either method 1 or 2.
Method 2 is shown in the next steps.

3. Place collars on the knee bar, under the utility strap, making an 'X'.
*Note: Keep identical buckle ends on the same side.

4. Place leg in the stilt (with pads on) and snap opposite ends of the collars together. Adjust to fit snug.
*Note: Keep the 'X' on the center of the knee bar.
5. Tighten utility strap as much as possible. Thread the end of the strap through the tri-glide and the end of the buckle, then back through the tri-glide if possible.
*Note: You may need to trim the strap if there is too much extra. Seal with a flame.

Repeat steps 2 through 5 for the second stilt.

Finished Mod:

These bindings keep your legs strapped in tight and they only take seconds to strap on or off.
You can even leave the D-rings on, as they act as anchors to help pull the buckles tight.

*Note: We recommend wearing pants and kneepads with these straps for greater comfort.

History:

Based on the original bindings that come with some jumping stilts, Pinhead69 (of ProJumpForum.co.uk) created a quick-release design. Pinhead69 currently makes them from scratch so they are completely customized to the customer. Zendalfire (of ProJumpForum.co.uk) inspired by Pinhead's idea, created a comparable design using pre-made items that are widely available. This tutorial demonstrates Zendalfire's design, which requires no tools, no sewing and only about 10 minutes to make.
